Women Empowering People

Women of Chicago Empowerment Network (WCEN)

WCEN is an initiative that brings together women of Chicago who hail from diverse backgrounds, industries, and world regions to discuss strategies and develop program activities that will increase the financial knowledge, capacity, and security of women across Chicago. Members are dedicated to locating and implementing solutions that will support and empower all women working to overcome the Racial Wealth Divide of Chicago’s households of color in liquid asset poverty. As well as the Women’s Income & Wealth Gap that perpetuates inequality and traps lower-income white women, women of color, and their families in a cycle of debt that undermines their capacity to achieve economic security and build generational wealth. Members of the WCEN also receive professional development and support from partners.

During the month of March, People Empowering People Chicago & the Women of Chicago Empowerment Network will be hosting a month-long celebration to address the ever-increasing Racial Wealth Divide that
leaves 65% of Chicago’s households of color in liquid asset poverty. During this celebration we will conduct a variety of workshop ranging from financial education classes, entrepreneurship training, career and professional development resources, and more that
will also address the Women’s Wealth & Income Divide that perpetuates inequality and traps lower-income women, and their families in a cycle of debt that is undermining their capacity to build generational
wealth.
